3 Metro Atlanta Students Awarded Georgia Pacific Scholarships

Georgia-Pacific awarded 50 scholarships nationwide after receiving about 300 applications.

BROOKHAVEN, GA — Three metro Atlanta high school graduates are receiving scholarships thanks to Georgia-Pacific.

The Georgia-Pacific Foundation Employees’ Children Scholarship is awarding one student from three local schools in Atlanta, Brookhaven and Sandy Springs. Each student has a parent who works at Georgia-Pacific’s Atlanta headquarters.

Eashan Sinha of Riverwood International Charter School, Margaret Graham of Westminster, and Anish Jaisinghani of Chamblee Charter High School will each receive $2,000 per year for up to four years of undergrad study.

At Riverwood, Eashan was a student body officer, vice president of FBLA, and founder and president of the Coding and Technology Club. He was also a member of the National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, French National Honor Society, Beta Club, and Math Team. He plans to study Management Information Systems at Georgia Tech. He had considered UC Berkeley, the University of Michigan, or Rice University, but chose to stay in-state due to the uncertainties around the COVID-19 pandemic.

Margaret Graham, a soccer standout, has committed to playing for Duke University. She was a captain for the NASA Tophat Development Academy club team, and was selected this year to the Youth Girls All-American Team and the Youth Girls All-South Region Team by the United Soccer Coaches. At Westminster, Margaret was a member of the National Honor Society and ran for the state champion Westminster Varsity Cross Country team.

Anish Jaisinghani was heavily involved in academic extracurricular activities at Chamblee, including FBLA, International Club, Math Team, and Science Bowl. Anish was a National AP Scholar and earned the Georgia Certificate of Merit. This fall, he will attend Georgia Tech with plans to study Computer Science.

Georgia-Pacific awards 50 scholarships each year to the children of employees across the country. The scholarship awards $2,000 per year for up to four years of full-time college undergraduate study or until baccalaureate degree requirements are completed, whichever occurs first, for a total maximum award of up to $8,000.

“The COVID-19 shutdown has cost these young people a huge part of their educational experience,” said Curley M. Dossman, Jr., president of the Georgia-Pacific Foundation. “It is vital that we continue to support their academic success and remind them that their futures remain bright.”

Since the scholarship program began in 1988, Georgia-Pacific has awarded nearly 1,600 scholarships totaling nearly $13 million. The program is administered by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation and is open to children of all active, full-time, U.S.-based employees of Georgia-Pacific. About 300 applications were received this year.

Education is a cornerstone of Georgia-Pacific’s community investment. Across the country, the company supports a wide array of public school and community based educational programs. Investment support includes programs that boost literacy, promote STEM and STEAM interest and train educators to take their skills to the next level of teaching and learning.
