Every week during the college football season, CBS Sports ranks every FBS college football program beyond just the typical top-25 poll. During this unusual year, featuring fewer teams playing in the fall, the FBS rankings decreased from 130 teams to polling 76 programs.

The Miners, who have won just two games in the last three seasons (2-34), were ranked dead last (76 of 76) in the CBS Sports rankings list.

Several of the Miners' opponents on the schedule this year and other fellow C-USA schools appeared in the bottom ten of the list as well. Middle Tennessee (67), ULM (69), North Texas (71), Rice (72) and UTSA (73) join UTEP at the bottom of the poll.

UTEP opens up the season against Stephen F. Austin (FCS) on Saturday, Sept. 5 at the Sun Bowl. The Miners will face Texas (Sept. 11), Abilene Christian (Sept. 19) and Lousiana-Monroe (Sept. 26) before getting ready for C-USA play beginning on Oct. 10.

Head coach Dana Dimel is in year three of his five-year rebuild process with the Miners. Even though the team has just one FBS win since the 2016 season, Dimel expects the younger talent to rise in year three of his tenure.
