Monday marks the first day of practice for 6A and 5A football programs.
A handful of Fort Bend County players on these larger programs will start practice this week with an extra set of eyes on them after the Touchdown Club of Houston announced its annual preseason team.
Lamar Consolidated ISD had three selections, including George Ranch wide receiver Javon Gipson, Foster wide receiver Cody Jackson and Foster offensive lineman Reuben Fatheree II.
Gipson had six touchdowns over the Longhorns’ final three games.
Five came in the Longhorns’ two playoff games against Clear Falls and Humble last season.
He had 29 catches for 637 yards and nine touchdowns during his junior season.
The George Ranch star committed to Baylor University.
Jackson finished his junior campaign with 64 receptions for 1,370 yards and 18 touchdowns.
The future Oklahoma Sooner is in striking distance of the Foster career record for receiving yards, currently held by Cedarian Lamb at 3,418. Jackson is just under 2,500 yards after two seasons at the varsity level.
Fatheree is a three-time, all-district selection on the offensive line and a multiple sport star for the Falcons.
Fort Bend ISD had five selections: Travis defensive back Cameron Oliver, Marshall defensive back Christian Jackson, Marshall linebacker Kenny Seymour, Hightower wide receiver Latrell Neville and Willowridge running back JaMarcus Buckner.
Oliver has 15 interceptions over the first three seasons at Travis, including two returned for touchdown slast year.
Jackson had 70 tackles and five interceptions last season for the Buffaloes.
Seymour, a Rice University commit, had 145 tackles, nine tackles for loss, four sacks and one interception.
Hightower’s Neville, a University of Nebraska commit, had 17 receptions for 315 yards and six touchdowns.
Willowridge’s Buckner had 1,143 yards and nine touchdown rushing last season.
Katy ISD had one selection from Fort Bend: Katy Tompkins quarterback Jalen Milroe.
Milroe, a University of Alabama commit, threw for 2,689 yards and 29 touchdowns in his junior season.
