“A local medical device company spun out of Rice University to develop a nanoparticle technology has raised new capital.
Houston-based Nanospectra Biosciences Inc. closed an initial $3 million in Series B-1 financing, according to a Sept. 8 news release. The equity round was led by Woburn, Massachusetts-based health care firm Sirtex Medical, which focuses on targeted liver cancer therapies. In addition to Sirtex, the financing round also saw participation from new and existing investors. Kevin P. Smith, general counsel and executive vice president of business development for Sirtex, will join the Nanospectra board of directors.” — Houston Business Journal’s Chris Mathews
