New Mexico Lobos vs. Our Lady of the Lake Saints

When:

Tuesday December 15th, 2020 at 4 p.m. MT

Where:

Tudor Fieldhouse in Houston, Texas. The home to the Rice Owls.

Coverage:

Game will be shown on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=prirVgfmOg4, it will also be heard on the Lobo Radio Network, Lobo Sports App, 96.3 FM/770 AM KKOB in Albuquerque.

Series:

First ever meeting between the two schools.

Breakdown:

The New Mexico Lobos will take on the Our Lady of the Lake Saints on the hardwood on Tuesday evening.

The Saints are a member of NAIA and come into this game 1-1 with a loss to Incarnate Word but beat Texas State over the weekend. So, this game should not be taken lightly by the Lobos.

UNM comes into the game at 1-0 after beating Rice on Sunday by a final of 72-61.

What to expect from Our Lady of the Lake:

The Saints lean on forward Ruben Monzon, who scored 10 points against Incarnate Word and 18 points against Texas State.

Our Lady of the Lake plays stout defense. They forced Texas State into 19 turnovers on Saturday. With turnovers still being an issue for UNM, that could be a deciding factor in this one.

X-Factor for New Mexico:

With Monzon leading the charge for the Saints, the key player tonight will be Makuach Maluach for the Lobos.

Maluach had 23 points and 12 rebounds against Rice on Sunday and will need a repeat performance for the Lobos to have a victory on Tuesday evening.

Prediction:

This seems like it would be a walk in the park for Lobos. However, given the Lobos notoriously bad history of having a lot of turnovers, combined with the Saints ability to force turnovers, the Lobos cannot take this game lightly. That said, the Lobos should make enough plays in this game to grab the win. I got Lobos-75 Saints-65.
