Cougars continue four-match homestand

HOUSTON – Coming off its first win of the 2021 spring season, Houston Volleyball looks to carry that momentum into its doubleheader matchup with Stephen F. Austin on Thursday inside the Athletics/Alumni Center.

This is the first time the two teams have faced each other since Sept. 14, 2013, when the Ladyjacks took down the Cougars in five sets. Although Houston has dropped three of its last five contests with the Ladyjacks, the Cougars lead the all-time series, 16-5.

With no fans in attendance, those wishing to watch at home can do so by viewing Houston's contests on its Facebook page here.

QUICK HITS
  • Houston opened its 2021 campaign splitting its home-and-home series with Rice, despite winning more sets (5-3) than the Owls. After holding a 2-0 match lead, Houston ultimately fell in the opener, before rebounding the next day to sweep Rice for its first win of the season.
  • In her collegiate debut, freshman setter Annie Cooke led all players with 52 assists in the contest, then followed that performance handing out another 32 helpers, giving her an average of 10.50 assists per set in the early season.
  • Houston's outside hitters also made their presence felt on the court, as junior Kortlyn Henderson (3.25) and sophomore Abbie Jackson (3.62) each averaged more than 3.00 kills per set on the weekend. While Henderson logged double-digit kills in both contests against Rice, Jackson opened her sophomore season logging 20 kills.
