Senior forward led team with 20 shots in 2019

HOUSTON – After three years with the program and defending her position as a lead player for the Houston Soccer program, senior forward Jazmin Grant was named to the Preseason All-American Athletic Conference Team, the league announced Wednesday.

Receiving the accolade for the second time in her career, Grant was the individual representative for the Cougars, who were initially picked to finish sixth in the conference, as voted on by the league's coaches. She first earned the preseason honor in 2018.

The Atascocita, Texas, native progressively made a name for herself. Head Coach Diego Bocanegra has called her "One of the most feared forwards in the conference," crediting her ability to get past double-teams and leading the pack in creating chances for scores.

In 2019, Grant set new standards for the team, where she led the Cougars with 20 shots on goal and finished second in the program's single-season history for most shots (35). Grant delivered 11 points and three assists to finish the season.

In her time wearing the Scarlet and White, Grant has been named to The American All-Conference Second Team in 2019 and All-Rookie team in 2017. As a freshman, Grant was selected to participate in the U-20 Jamaican National Team Camp.

Grant and the Cougars open their spring season at 2 p.m. Saturday, when Houston travels to meet its crosstown opponent Rice.
