DALLAS – Charlotte’s Olle Wallin was named the C-USA Male Tennis Athlete of the Week after a win over a strong opponent. Maria Budin of Rice received Female Tennis Athlete of the Week accolades following an unbeaten slate in the last two matches. All weekly awards are presented by Surf & Turf Golf.
 
C-USA Male Athlete of the Week – Olle Wallin, Charlotte, Fr., Halmstad, Sweden
Wallin recorded the team’s lone win against No. 16 North Carolina State with a victory at No. 2 singles over Yannai Barkai (6-7, 6-3, 6-2). The freshman also won at No. 1 singles against Liberty’s Nicaise Muamba, rallying from a 5-2 first set deficit to win the match in straight sets (7-5, 6-3). A doubles win by Wallin and Ignasi de Rueda, 7-6 (7-3), over Liberty’s Josh Wilson and Goncalo Ferreira clinched the doubles point for the 49ers, but Charlotte was edged 4-3 in the match. Wallin has compiled six straight singles victories.
 
C-USA Female Athlete of the Week – Maria Budin, Rice, So., Bristol, United Kingdom
Budin posted an unbeaten slate against Texas Tech and TAMU-CC and set the early tone for the Owls in their first win over the Red Raiders since 2010 (8 matches) when she combined with Diae El Jardi to defeat the 43^rd-ranked No. 1 doubles unit. The sophomore teamed up with El Jardi to clinch both doubles points last week and then followed with quick wins at No. 6 singles to give Rice a 2-0 lead in each match that the Owls never relinquished.
