WBB: Feb. 15 Players of the Week

DALLAS – Conference USA awarded Charlotte senior Octavia Jett-Wilson and Rice senior Nancy Mulkey Player of the Week honors on Monday. Jett-Wilson joined Charlotte’s elite 1,000-point club with 76 combined in the team’s sweep of Old Dominion. Mulkey, in her first game in 27 days, led the Owls to a sweep of WKU with an average 19 points, seven rebounds and five blocks. Charlotte also garnered Freshman of the Week recognition as Molina Williams notched her career’s first double-double in the series. Awards are voted on by the league's women's basketball communications directors. All C-USA weekly awards are presented by Surf & Turf Golf.

CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK
OCTAVIA JETT-WILSON, CHARLOTTE
SENIOR, G, 5-8, GREENBELT, MD
Jett-Wilson had herself a historic weekend, averaging 38 points and 11 rebounds as Charlotte swept a pair of overtime contests with Old Dominion. Her 76 combined points are the most in consecutive games in the program’s 46-year history. Jett-Wilson posted a career-best 42 in the 102-95 double-overtime win Wednesday. The point total marked the second-most in a single game in program history, and was the first time a Niner had compiled 40+ points since 1987. 18 of the squad’s 27 points came through her during the two overtime frames. Jett-Wilson also grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds, matched her career-high six assists and registered a season-best three steals. Back in Charlotte on Saturday, she finished with a game-high 34 points, including a perfect 10-of-10 performance at the foul line, and was responsible for 11 of the team’s 14 points in the overtime period.

CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK
NANCY MULKEY, RICE
SENIOR, C, 6-9, CYPRESS, TX
Mulkey made her return to the court in dominating fashion to help Rice secure its seventh and eighth conference victories in a row. After the program’s 27-day layoff, Mulkey flirted with a triple-double on Friday, recording her third-straight 20+ point performance with 22 on 10-of-12 field goal shots, to pair with 10 rebounds and a season-best eight blocks. The Lisa Leslie Award Top-10 candidate led the Owls to victory once again on Saturday with a team-high 16 points, four boards, three assists and two blocks.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
MOLINA WILLIAMS, CHARLOTTE
FRESHMAN, F, 6-0, GRAHAM, NC
Williams averaged 13.5 rebounds and 9.5 points in her two performances over the weekend. She opened the series with a career-high 48 minutes in the double-overtime contest, falling just short of a double-double with nine points and a career-topping 17 rebounds. A total of 12 of those were pulled on the defensive end, helping Charlotte compile a school-record 43 defensive boards in the win. On Saturday, Williams was able to lock in her season’s first double-double on a 10-point, 10-rebound effort as the Niners completed the sweep with an 87-80 decision made in one last overtime frame.
