Houston Set to Meet WKU on Thursday in Fertitta Center

2/24/2021 8:56:00 AM | Men's Basketball

HOUSTON – The University of Houston Men's Basketball program will compete in non-conference action when it takes on WKU at 6 p.m., Thursday, inside the Fertitta Center.

Fans should note that Thursday's game against the Hilltoppers was a recent addition to the team's schedule and may not appear on earlier published schedules.

Thursday's game is the latest Houston has played a regular-season, non-conference game since taking a 95-81 win over Lamar inside Hofheinz Pavilion on March 1, 1994, under Head Coach Alvin Brooks, who is now an assistant for Head Coach Kelvin Sampson.

No. 12/10 Houston enters this week's game following an impressive 90-52 win over American Athletic Conference rival Cincinnati on Sunday inside the Fertitta Center. It was the biggest win by either team in the series history and tied for the most points scored by the Cougars against the Bearcats.

Junior guard Quentin Grimes led all players with 20 points for his team-leading seventh 20-point game of the season. Grimes leads the Cougars and ranks among The American's leaders with 16.9 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. He is one of only three student-athletes to rank among the league's Top-Eight leaders in both categories.

Earlier this week, the Woodlands, Texas, native was named a finalist for the Jerry West Award, presented annually to the nation's top shooting guard.

Senior forward Fabian White Jr. returned to competition in the Fertitta Center for the first time Sunday after tearing his ACL in May 2020. After undergoing successful surgery and rehab, White scored 10 points with nine rebounds against the Bearcats.

Senior forward Justin Gorham continues to rank among the nation's top rebounders. The Columbia, Md., native leads the Cougars and The American with 9.6 rebounds per game and ranks fourth in the nation with 4.4 offensive boards per contest.

Gorham is the only player to rank among the league's Top-Three leaders in both offensive and defensive rebounding.
