LUBBOCK, Texas – After a two-month break from competition, the 2020-21 volleyball season continues this Thursday and Friday as the Red Raiders travel to Houston for a pair of matches with the Cougars.
The spring opener is set for Thursday at 3 p.m. followed by a match Friday at 6 p.m. Due to university COVID-19 protocols there will be no fans permitted for either match. Both matches will be streamed on the Houston Volleyball Facebook page here.
Texas Tech (5-11) competed in a 16 match all-conference schedule in the fall. The Red Raiders picked up wins over West Virginia, Iowa State, TCU and a pair of wins against Oklahoma.
The Red Raiders will be without a trio of key players from the fall as seniors Emerson Solano and Allison Bloss elected not to compete in the spring season and sophomore Cadi Boyer recovers from injury. Tech does return it's top three kills leaders in Samantha Sanders, Caitlin Dugan and Brooke Kanas.
Houston (7-1) did not play in the fall but began the season in January with a pair of matches against Rice. After dropping their first match of the season the Cougars have won seven straight including a quality win over Rice and a sweep of SMU. Houston sits at the top of the American Conference West Division standings.
Houston owns the series 30-16 over Tech, however, the Red Raiders have won the last two matches against the Cougars.
