SWIM: All-Academic Team Announced

DALLAS – The six-member 2021 Conference USA Swimming and Diving All-Academic team has been selected by a vote of the league’s academic advisors, highlighted by a pair of returning selections from last year’s squad and four schools being represented. In order to qualify for nomination to the team, student-athletes must have achieved at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average and serve as a key competitor of their respective team.

Kelsie Campbell | FIU | Gr. | Nottingham, England
Campbell, who owns an undergrad degree in Biochemistry, is pursuing a graduate degree in Public Health and Social Work.  She has made the Dean’s List every semester at FIU (7 semesters), graduated Summa Cum Laude fall 2020 and has been a Commissioner’s Academic Medal Award recipient every semester at FIU.  Campbell won the 100 backstroke A Final on Day Two of the FGCU Invitational and set a personal-best (55.08) in the event.  She also set a personal-best in the 100 butterfly (54.64) at the A Final on Day Two of the FGCU Invitational and took third place.  Campbell won the 100 butterfly (56.26) in FIU’s dual-meet against FGCU later in the season and finished runner-up in the 100 backstroke (55.95).  She has secured first-place in six relay races throughout the season.

Julia Miranda | FIU | Gr. | Rio DeJaniero, Brazil
Miranda graduated Magna Cum Laude in the spring of 2020 with a degree in Economics and is now carrying a 4.000 GPA in International Business. She has been named to the Dean’s List all three of her semesters at FIU and has been a Commissioner’s Academic Medal Award recipient every semester. Miranda won the 200 backstroke A Final on day three of the FGCU Invitational with a time of 1:59.34 and took second in the 100 butterfly A Final on day two of that meet with a mark of 54.25. Miranda recorded a personal best in the 100 freestyle in a dual-meet against Miami (Fla.), after logging a 51.00 in the lead-off leg of the 400 free relay and secured first-place in the 100 backstroke (56.37) at Miami. She took home the 100 backstroke (56.24) and 200 backstroke (2:03.73) in FIU’s dual meet against FAU to earn C-USA Athlete of the Week honors on Feb. 3.

Raeleigh Mooij | Marshall | Jr. | Ottawa, Ontario
Mooij is a double major Health Sciences & Sports Management Major and Exercise Science Minor and carries a 3.89 GPA. She is a two-time member of the Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll and was also a 2020 Recipient of the Conference USA Academic Medal. Mooij is a three-time member of Marshall University’s President’s Honor Roll during the past three semesters (an academic award from the University not related to athletics for students with 4.0 GPA).  Mooij participated in both of the Herd’s meets this season, helping the team to a first place finish in the 200-yard medley relay vs. Ohio.

Micalya Morgan | North Texas | Sr. | Plano, Texas
Morgan is a Biology major who carries a 3.85 GPA.  She was a member of the 2020 Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll and recipient of the 2020 Conference USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal.  Morgan won the 50 free against Little Rock (24.58) and Incarnate Word (24.72) and placed second in the 100 fly (57.78) at IWU.  She had four other top five finishes in limited competition.

Summer Sampson | Old Dominion | So. | Virginia Beach, Virginia
Sampson is a Dental Hygiene major who is carrying a 3.98 GPA. A member of the Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll and winner of the C-USA Academic Medal, she has earned Dean’s List honors. Old Dominion only participated in one meet this season, but Sampson won the 100 backstroke in that dual meet win over Campbell with a time of 58.12 and was also was victorious in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:04.92.

Nicole Limberg | Rice | Sr. | Mill Creek, Washington
Limberg is a two-time Conference USA Commissioner’s Academic Medalist and a three-time member of the C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll who carries a 3.83 GPA in Kinesiology and Sports Medicine. She is a three-time Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports/Scholar Qualifier and a three-time member of the Rice President’s Honor Roll (an academic award from the University that is not related to athletics).  Limberg has also been named a Rice University Honor Athlete.  She owns this season’s No. 2 time in C-USA in the 100-breaststroke (1:03.54) and the league’s No. 4 mark in the 200-breaststroke (2:17.89).
