SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Baylor men's golf is in sixth place after shooting 12-over-par 300 in Monday's first round of the Cabo Collegiate at TPC San Antonio. The Bears are just three shots back of second place, as only five strokes separate teams in second and ninth place.
No. 27 Baylor (+12) trails five top-15 ranked teams and is in front of five top-30 ranked programs. The Bears lead No. 3 Arizona State (+3), No. 31 Arkansas (+13), California (+15), No. 1 Arizona (+17), No. 21 Texas Tech (+18), UTSA (+21), No. 23 Houston (+24), Abilene Christian (+29), Rice (+31) and No. 30 Stanford (+36).
The Bears are behind only No. 7 Oklahoma (-1), No. 15 Texas A&M (+9), No. 10 Texas (+10), No. 4 Florida State (+10) and No. 8 Oklahoma State (+11).
Johnny Keefer posted the Bears' best round of the day with a 1-under 71, making him just one of four players in the 88-golfer field to shoot below par. He's tied for second individually, two shots back of Oklahoma's Patrick Welch.
Colin Kober carded 3-over 75 to sit in a tie for 21
st place, while
Ryan Grider and
Brandon Hoff finished the team scorecard with matching scores of 5-over 77 to tie for 39
th place.
Tyler Isenhart is tied for 57
th place after shooting 7-over 79, and
Luke Dossey, who is competing as an individual, is tied for 74
th place at 9-over 81.

Johnny Keefer joined Oklahoma State's Aman Gupta as the only players in the 88-golfer field to make five birdies in the first round. Keefer made birdies on Nos. 4, 9, 13, 14 and 17. He was one of only five players to make birdie on No. 13, one of seven to birdie No. 9 and one of nine to birdie No. 4.

Baylor will be paired with Oklahoma State, Arizona State and California for Tuesday's second round. Those groups will be first off the tee at 8 a.m. CT, with Isenhart up first, followed in 10-minute intervals by Hoff, Grider, Kober and Keefer, respectively.
