Sunday’s match also represents Senior Day for four Cougars

HOUSTON – The Houston soccer team welcomes Tulsa for its American Athletic Conference home opener, and Senior Day, on Sunday, March 21, at 1 p.m. CT.

Last week the Cougars split a pair of matches, with a shutout victory over Rice followed by a loss on the road to Memphis. Now, the program enters the final stretch of the season against only conference opponents.

GRANT SUCCESS

Named to the conference honor roll this past week, senior Jazmin Grant is tied for the team lead with six points coming off two goals and two assists. The Atascocita, Texas, native played a role in both goals last week against Rice with the first goal and an assist on the second.

In her fourth season representing the Red and White, Grant has now totaled 16 goals and 11 assists.

SENIOR CELEBRATION

Before the match begins on Sunday, the Cougars will honor four seniors: CaLeigha Callahan, Amy Nguyen, Reid Morrison, and Kate Godfrey. The group has over 22 victories in their career and have been key pieces of the program during their time in Houston.

The quartet has started a combined 54 matches with 107 total appearances. The group is led by Nguyen who has started 31 games in Houston since arriving as a transfer from Oklahoma State in 2018.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN HURRICANE

With one win on the season, coming against Central Florida in conference play, Tulsa finds themselves a couple spots ahead of Houston in the AAC standings.

Tulsa has only played conference opponents this season with a 1-3 record amassed in that stretch. Through those four games, the Golden Hurricane have been outscored 10-3 after being shutout in their past two matches.

In the history of these two programs meeting Houston holds the edge 6-5-3. Plus, the Cougars have won the past three meetings by a combined score of 7-1.

UP NEXT

Houston travels to Cincinnati on Wednesday for a match originally scheduled for February. The AAC slate continues next Sunday as the Cougars welcome USF to the Carl Lewis International Complex.
