Four matches in four days begins Tuesday at Lipscomb

CHICAGO – Taking a page out of women's basketball coach Doug Bruno's playbook of building a demanding schedule, men's tennis coach Matt Brothers presents his team with four consecutive challenging matches this week.

A spring break road trip through Tennessee begins on Tuesday at Lipscomb and continues with a match Wednesday at Vanderbilt, Thursday at Belmont and concludes Friday at No. 35 Middle Tennessee State.

This is anything but a Tennessee waltz.

DePaul (8-2) has won five in a row behind the March 10 Oracle/ITA National Men's Tennis Player of the Week Vito Tonejc who is the reigning BIG EAST Athlete of the Week for men's tennis. The junior for Zagreb, Croatia is 8-1 in singles primarily at the No. 1 position and has won seven-straight.

Tripp Tuff is 8-2 and has come out on top his last three matches. Boris Spanjaard is 6-2 while is doubles partner Christopher Casati is 6-4 with a five-match winning streak. Luuk Wassenaar is off to a 5-3 start.

The Casati/Spanjaard tandem is 7-1 in doubles including 5-1 in the No. 1 spot. They have led the way in securing that all-important doubles point that provides early momentum.

Lipscomb is 5-5 in the dual-match season with victories over UAB, Bellarmine, Austin Peay and two against Tennessee State. The Bisons have lost twice to Belmont and once each to Middle Tennessee State, Vanderbilt and Liberty.

Vanderbilt is 4-9 with wins over Belmont, Lipscomb, Rice and Illinois State. Prominent among the Commodores' losses are No. 10 Texas A&M, No. 22 Kentucky, No. 31 Alabama, No. 32 Memphis, No. 35 Middle Tennessee State twice and No. 37 Arkansas.

Belmont (6-1) has topped Bellarmine, Lipscomb twice, Alabama A&M, Radford and Carson-Newman with the loss coming to Vandy.

No. 35 Middle Tennessee State is an impressive 11-5 with prominent wins over No. 46 Notre Dame and No. 48 Iowa. Four of the Blue Raiders' setbacks are to nationally ranked teams---No. 3 Ohio State, No. 20 Mississippi State, No. 38 Virginia Tech and No. 39 Auburn.
