Cougars begin Monday morning at Westwood Country Club in Houston

HOUSTON – The University of Houston Men's Golf program continues its spring season when it joins with Rice and Sam Houston State to play host to the Bayou City Collegiate Classic, beginning Monday morning at Westwood Country Club.
 
Teams will play 36 holes beginning with an 8 a.m., shotgun start Monday with the final 18 holes starting Tuesday morning on the 7,184-yard, par-72 layout.

STARTING LINEUP
Under the direction of Director of Golf Jonathan Dismuke, the Cougars will be represented by senior Luke Long, sophomore Austyn Reily, senior Alexander Frances, junior Braxton Watkins, and senior Matt Cole.
 
Senior Andrew Gibson, senior Andrew Young, sophomore Trip Morris and freshman Hanseung Chang will compete as individuals.
 
This season, Reily leads the Cougars with a 72.79 scoring average and seven rounds of par or better. The Pottsboro, Texas, native opened the season with a third-place finish at the Rice Intercollegiate and fired a 69 in the First Round of the N.I.T. on March 20 in Houston's most recent action.
 
Frances is a close second on the team with a 72.93 average and is tied with Long for second among the Cougars with six rounds of par or better.

Frances closed the Valspar Collegiate Invitational with rounds of 70-59 on March 15-16 to tie for 16th and lead the Cougars at that prestigious event. Long shot the Cougars' low round at the N.I.T with a 68 during the final 18 holes at Omni Tucson National Resort on March 21 to tie for 35th and join with Reily in leading the Cougars.
 
TEAM FIELD
The Cougars will compete in a 17-team field against Rice, Sam Houston State, Abilene Christian, No. 42 Aransas State, Florida Atlantic, Houston Baptist, Lamar, Louisiana, McNeese, New Mexico, Nicholls, North Texas, South Alabama, UTEP, No. 26 UTSA and Texas State.

PAIRINGS
For Monday, the Cougars will compete in groups with student-athletes from UTSA.
 
Frances and Watkins will play in the first group off No. 3 with Long and Reily in the second group off that hole. Cole with compete with Rice student-athletes off No. 2.
 
Chang, Gibson, Morris and Young will compete with McNeese student-athletes with Chang and Gibson going off No.  16 and Morris and Young off No. 17.

UP NEXT
Following the Bayou City Collegiate Classic at Westwood Golf Club in Houston, the Cougars close the regular season at the Aggie Invitational at Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas on April 9-11.
 
From there, Houston takes its first step in the postseason when it tees off at the American Athletic Conference Championships at Southern Hills Plantation in Brooksville, Fla., on April 23-25. The winner of the league's annual postseason event receives the automatic bid to NCAA Regional play.
