DALLAS – Middle Tennessee’s Ashley Shimberg, who scored four goals in a victory over Marshall, WKU’s Katie Erwin, whose goal in the final seconds brought the Lady Toppers a C-USA division title, North Texas’ Brooke Lampe, who helped her squad to a key C-USA victory and Rice’s Bella Killgore, who helped the Owls clinch a division title with a shutout performance in goal, earned the 10th and last Spring 2021 Conference USA Women’s Soccer Player of the Week honors, presented by Surf & Turf Golf.

Shimberg and Erwin were selected Co-Offensive Players of the Week, Lampe earned Defensive Player of the Week honors and Killgore was named C-USA Goalkeeper of the Week.

C-USA Co-Offensive Player of the Week – Ashley Shimberg, Middle Tennessee, Fr., Tampa, Fla.
Making the first appearance of her career, Shimberg put on a show as she scored four goals on four shots in an 18-minute span in 7-2 victory over Marshall on April 9. The freshman from Tampa, Florida took over with the Blue Raiders leading 3-2. Shimberg scored four consecutive goals in the 72nd minute, the 76th, the 89th and her last goal came with one second left in the match. It was just the fifth time in MTSU history that a player scored four goals in a game – the first time since 2009 and the first against a conference opponent.

C-USA Co-Offensive Player of the Week – Katie Erwin, WKU, So., Louisville, Ky.
Erwin was the definition of clutch scoring the match-winning goal in the 90th minute against Charlotte to secure the East Division title for WKU on April 9. In the 90th minute, WKU had a free kick. Lyric Schmidt rocketed a pass into the box where Erwin was waiting. Erwin got her head on the ball and sent it into the back of the net with 40 seconds remaining. It was her third goal of the season and her first match-winning goal. Erwin had four total shots in the match, and the one on goal was the biggest of WKU’s season.

C-USA Defensive Player of the Week – Brooke Lampe, North Texas, Sr., Mansfield, Texas
Lampe was the leader of the North Texas defense in the 3-0 victory over UTSA on April 9 that propelled Mean Green to a second-place finish in C-USA’s West Division. The senior from Mansfield, Texas played the entire match, and she helped hold UTSA to no shots in the first half and only two shots on goal and two corner kicks in the entire match.

C-USA Goalkeeper of the Week – Bella Killgore, Rice, Jr., Houston, Texas
Killgore played all 90 minutes in the Owls’ C-USA shutout win vs. UTEP to clinch the West Division title on April 9. The junior from Houston, Texas recorded two saves for her seventh complete game shutout of the season. The victory was Rice’s sixth straight, and Killgore extended her consecutive scoreless minutes streak to 511:38. It is the second C-USA Goalkeeper of the Week award for Killgore as she was also honored with the February 16 award.
