WSOC: 2020 All-Academic Teams Announced

DALLAS –Conference USA women’s soccer student-athletes excelled on and off the field as 22 were named to the 2020 C-USA Women’s Soccer All-Academic Teams. A total of 13 institutions were recognized across both teams, with Old Dominion, Rice and UAB leading the league with three honorees each.
 
There are 10 new honorees on the First Team with only Middle Tennessee’s Peyton DePriest a previous First Team honoree in 2018.
 
DePriest leads the Blue Raiders with four goals on the season. The senior exercise science major and graduate leisure, sport and tourism management major posted a 3.94 grade-point average (GPA) and was a 2019 C-USA All-Academic Second Team selection. She was also a 2019 United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-American and a Second Team Scholar All-South Region selection. DePriest is the NCAA’s active career goal-scoring leader with 46.
 
A total of 10 student-athletes were named First Team All-Academic for the first time this season.
 
Charlotte’s Julia Patrum, a sophomore psychology major, posted a 3.825 GPA. A two-time Conference USA Academic Medal winner and a two-time Conference USA Honor Roll member, she is also a two-time Dean’s List and a one-time Chancellor’s List honoree at Charlotte. The C-USA Offensive Player of the Week on March 2, Patrum leads the 49ers in scoring with four goals and 10 points.
 
FIU’s Sydney Amparo, a sophomore rehabilitation and recreational therapy major, penned an unblemished 4.00 GPA. A two-time C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal winner, she has been on the FIU Dean’s List every year in her career. She leads the Panthers in scoring with three goals in 12 games played.
 
Louisiana Tech’s Amber Posthauer, a senior exercise and health promotion major with an entrepreneurship minor, posted a 3.98 GPA. A three-time C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll recipient and two-time C-USA Academic Medalist, she has made the President’s List 10 times as a LA Tech student-athlete. Posthauer is tied for fourth on the team in points with five and goals with two.
 
North Texas’ Kelsey Brann, a junior journalism/photography major, earned a 3.656 GPA. A preseason All-Conference USA selection, she has posed a 0.75 goals-against average and a .759 save percentage in nine matches. Brann has five shutouts on the season, including a pair in conference play, and she has a C-USA GAA of 0.57.
 
Rice’s Bella Killgore, a junior chemical engineering major, had a 3.70 GPA. A two-time selection to the C-USA Academic Honor Roll, she is also a Rice University Honor Athlete. Killgore is a two-time C-USA Goalkeeper of the Week selection, and has posted seven shutouts, including four in conference play. She also is a threat offensively, and she has scored three goals on 25 shots (12 on goal) this season.
 
UAB’s Stella Kiss, a junior accounting major, earned a 3.96 GPA. Kiss earned the Conference USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal and made the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll as a sophomore in 2019-20. She is second on the team in goals with six and points with 13 with three game-winning goals.
 
UAB’s Lexxe Lipsey, a senior who is working on her master of business administration degree, had a 4.0 undergrad and a 3.5 graduate GPA. She graduated Summa Cum Laude in December 2020 with a degree in English and a minor in Spanish. Lipsey is a NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship program recipient and a UAB Presidential Honor Roll honoree. She also has won the Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports-Scholar Award and was a member of National Society of Collegiate Scholars. Lipsey also made the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll as a junior in 2019-20. Lipsey is tied for the C-USA overall lead with eight goals and leads the conference with 17 points.
 
UAB’s Audria Wood, a senior who is working on her undergrad degree in biology and a master in public health degree, posted a 4.0 undergraduate GPA. She earned the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal and was named to the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll as a freshman in 2017-18, as a sophomore in 2018-19 and as a junior in 2019-20. She has also appeared on the UAB Dean’s and President’s Lists. She has played in 12 matches and helped anchor a defensive line with a goals-against-average of 1.26 with two shutouts.
 
UTEP’s Tessa Carlin, a sophomore biology major, earned a 3.94 GPA. She was the recipient of the 2020 C-USA Academic Medal, and she was also a member of the 2020 C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll. She leads UTEP in scoring with three goals and seven points this season, including a pair of game-winning goals.
 
UTSA’s Abby Kassal, a redshirt sophomore politics major, had a 3.94 GPA. She is a two-time C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal honoree and a two-time C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll member. She has made the UTSA President’s List once, Dean’s List twice and Honor Roll once. Kassal leads UTSA in scoring with four goals and nine points in 11 matches.
