WSOC: C-USA SF 1 - (3E) Charlotte 2, (1E) WKU 0

HOUSTON, Texas – East Division No. 3 seed Charlotte used a first-half goal by Piper Biziorek and a second-half penalty kick by Michaella Arteta to advance to Saturday’s C-USA Championship Game with a 2-0 victory over East No. 1 seed WKU in the first semifinal game of the 2020 C-USA Women's Soccer Championship at Rice's Holloway Field.

The victory by the 49ers (6-5) puts Charlotte in the C-USA title game for the first time since 2017. Charlotte will play the winner of Southern Miss-Rice for the C-USA championship and the NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championship automatic bid Saturday at 12 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+
 
Charlotte struck first in the 32nd minute when Biziorek dribbled just to the right at the top of the 18-yard box and hit a low shot into the lower-left corner for her second goal of the season.
 
In the 72nd minute, a penalty kick was awarded to the 49ers. Arteta stepped up and buried a liner into the lower-right corner of the net for a 2-0 advantage. It was her fourth goal of the season.
 
WKU (8-2-2) put pressure on the 49ers, as the Lady Toppers out-shot Charlotte 13-6 and took six corner kicks to one for the 49ers. Charlotte put four shots on goal to WKU’s three.
 
Charlotte goalkeeper Abby Stapleton made three saves, while WKU’s Ashley Kobylinski had two saves in goal.
