Houston hosts Rice in final home match
HOUSTON - The 2021 regular season closes out on Sunday as the Houston tennis team welcomes the No.37 Rice Owls to the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility.
Scheduled for 11 a.m. CT, the two programs separated by about five miles will meet for the eighth time in program history. Originally scheduled for Saturday, the match was postponed due to rain in the forecast.
This marks the sixth ranked foe the Cougars have faced this season and the second in a row after taking on No.48 SMU last Sunday. Houston is coming off a 4-2 loss to SMU last Sunday after a doubleheader sweep of Prairie View A&M on Friday. The team was scheduled to face Lamar on Wednesday, but the match was canceled due to weather.

Victory Continuing
With one more victory, the 2021 squad can win more games than the program has since 2017-18 when they won 20 games. The team also won three conference games, the same amount as the 2018-19 campaign.
Three Cougars have notched at least ten individual victories this season while three pairs have earned at least four wins.
Playoff Preparation
After Saturday's contest the Cougars next action comes in the single-elimination tournament. Competed in Orlando this year, the dual tournament will last from April 22 to April 25. The conference championship will be streamed on ESPN+.

Series History
The Cougars and Owls have met eight previous times throughout the past 19 years. The last, and only, Houston victory came on April 9, 2003. Coach Helena Besovic has only coached against Rice two times.
