DALLAS – Rice’s Mohamed Abdel-Aziz was named the C-USA Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week after a key win over a ranked team opponent. Lidia Burrows of Middle Tennessee earned Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week honors after a record-setting performance. All weekly awards are presented by Surf & Turf Golf.
 
C-USA Men’s Athlete of the Week – Mohamed Abdel-Aziz, Rice, Sr., Newcastle, UK
Abdel-Aziz extended his singles winning streak to five and matched his career-best season total with 11 wins with a pair of victories last weekend.  The senior defeated SMU’s Caleb Chakravarthi (who had played at the first line for the Mustangs all season prior to this match) in three sets to tie the dual with #50 SMU at 3-3.  He also downed Prairie View’s Juan Viada in straight sets to raise his home record to 9-1 in singles. In addition, he combined with Conrad Russell for a pair of doubles wins in his debut at the first doubles line.
 
C-USA Women’s Athlete of the Week – Lidia Burrows, MTSU, Gr., West Yorkshire, England
Burrows picked up two singles wins over the weekend, a 6-4, 6-2 decision over Samford’s Natalia De Ugarte and a 6-2, 6-2 win over conference opponent Adela Wasserbauerova of UAB. The two victories gave Burrows 93 career singles wins, setting a new Middle Tennessee school record.
