WSOC: Rice Earns NCAA Championship Bid

DALLAS – No. 25 Rice, the Conference USA champion, will represent C-USA in the 2020 NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championship, announced Monday by the NCAA.

The entire 48-team 2020 tournament will be held in Cary, North Carolina and the surrounding area starting April 27 with first-round games.
 
The Owls (12-2-2) will represent the league as the C-USA champion in their fifth NCAA appearance. Rice will play Southern Conference champions Furman (8-0-2) in a first-round game April 28 at WakeMed Field No. 2 in Cary at 3 p.m. ET/2 p.m. CT. Rice won the C-USA West Division title in the regular season, and earned the C-USA automatic bid with a 2-0 victory in the Conference USA Women’s Soccer Championship over Charlotte on April 17. The winner of the Rice-Furman game will advance to the second round May 1 against overall No. 5 seed West Virginia (10-2-1).
 
The Owls will begin the NCAAs on a nine-game unbeaten streak (8-0-1), with eight by shutout including the three games of the C-USA tournament. This will be Rice’s first appearance in the NCAAs since 2017. Rice is ranked No. 25 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll (April 13).
 
The 2020 NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championship culminates in the College Cup in Sahlen’s Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina. The two semifinals will take place on May 13, followed by the final on May 17.
