TEN: C-USA Women's Tennis Championship Preview

DENTON, Texas – The 2021 Conference USA Women’s Tennis Championship begins tomorrow, April 22, with 12 of 14 teams playing in first-round matches. The four-day event, hosted by North Texas, opens with six matches on Thursday beginning at 9 a.m. CT. Old Dominion and Rice, who secured the No. 1 and 2 seeds, respectively, open the championship with first-round byes.

No. 34 Old Dominion earned the top seed for the second time and will face the winner of (8) UAB and (9) UTSA on Friday. The Monarchs look to claim their first ever conference championship after making an appearance in the title match in 2019. ODU is led by junior Yulia Starodubtseva and freshman Tatsiana Sasnouskaya, the league’s top players in the Oracle/ITA rankings at No. 52 and 64, respectively. No. 37 Rice is the defending C-USA champion seeking a seventh league crown featuring two of the league’s top-ranked players in senior Linda Huang (No. 92) and freshman Federica Trevisan (No. 95). The Owls will face the winner of (7) Southern Miss and (10) Middle Tennessee in the quarterfinals. Third seed FIU, the 2018 champion, is currently ranked No. 45, while Charlotte holds the No. 4 seed and rounds out the nationally-ranked C-USA teams at No. 50.
 
The conference championship match is slated for 10 a.m. CT on Sunday, April 25.
