As a kid growing up in the Houston suburbs, Yankees pitching prospect Glenn Otto’s favorite ballplayer was a fellow Spring, Texas native who made it big. Otto doesn’t remember Josh Beckett pitching the Florida Marlins past the Yankees in the 2003 World Series — he was just 7 at the time — but he recalls his second title in ’07.

“Too bad he played for the Red Sox,” Otto said with a laugh Friday, which was the day after his best game as a minor leaguer — 5 1/3 shutout innings, two hits, 14 strikeouts and one walk in an 85-pitch start in the Double-A Somerset Patriots’ 11-1 victory at Hartford.
