Lt. Governor Dan Patrick took to Twitter to let Governor Abbott know he wants a special session of the State legislature to be called to take up three bills that failed to make it through the Texas House on Tuesday night. Patrick listed the three in his tweet: Senate Bill 29, which restricts sports played by transgender kids, Senate Bill 10, which would end taxpayer funded lobbying and Senate Bill 12, which would create a legal challenge for those censored on Facebook or Twitter.

The legislation fell victim to a bill deadline in the Texas House at midnight Tuesday night. House Democrats delayed the passage of earlier bills in order to kill the legislation after the House’s midnight deadline on taking up Senate Bills on first or second reading. The practice called “chubbing’.
RICE University Political Scientist Mark Jones attributed their failure to pass on the Speaker of the Texas House. “In the end it wasn’t Democrats that killed these three bills,” said Jones. “It was Republican Speaker Dade Phelan, because he was the one who Tee’d it up for Democrats by putting the bills on the last possible day of passage on the calendar.”
Governor Abbott responded with the following statement:
"Some are trying to end the game before the time clock has run out. There’s still time remaining for the House and Senate to work together to get important conservative legislation to my desk. Members in both chambers need to be spending every minute of every day to accomplish that mission."
The last day of the 87th State Legislature is Midnight May 31st.
