Moore Named to NABC Honors Court

HOUSTON — The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced its annual Honors Court Tuesday afternoon, with Payton Moore earning honors after his past season at Rice University.

In order to be named to the NABC Honors Court, student-athletes had to meet a set of standards that includes being either a junior or senior, a cumulative 3.20 or higher grade point average at the conclusion of the 2020-21 academic year, and have matriculated at least one year at their current institution (which must be a Division I, II, III or NAIA member).

"Payton's academic achievement is a microcosm of who he is as a person," head coach Jeff Wulbrun said. "He chases excellence in all he does; on the court, in the classroom, community and in his daily life. He propels those around him to pursue higher standards and he is led by doing the right thing all of the time. He is the ultimate fit for our culture and always reflects our core values.  His personality make-up, experience and maturity will allow Payton to be a strong leader within our program."

Moore is a three-time C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll member. The Los Angeles, Calif., native saw action in 88 games, making three starts during his time at Rice. He averaged 4.2 points per game and 1.8 rebounds per game. He majored in Sociology while minoring in Business while with the Owls in three years.

Located in Kansas City, the NABC was founded in 1927 by Phog Allen, the legendary basketball coach at the University of Kansas. Allen, a student of James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, organized coaches into this collective group to serve and enhance the sport. The NABC currently has nearly 5,000 members consisting primarily of university and college men's basketball coaches.

The Pioneers are preparing for the upcoming 2021-22 season.
