2021-22 Schedule

HOUSTON – On Friday morning, James Sears Bryant Head Men's Basketball Coach Ron Cottrell released the HBU men's basketball schedule for the 2021-22 campaign, his 31st as head coach of the Huskies, with a 28-game slate that features 13 games in Sharp Gym and another three in the greater Houston area.

"This season's schedule is as competitively balanced as we have had in many years. It offers great opportunities for our fans to see the Huskies play numerous times in the 2021-22 season with 13 home games, three regular season games in Katy, plus close road trips to Austin and College Station; and finally, the Southland Conference Championship Tournament back at the Merrell Center," said Cottrell. "The non-conference portion of the schedule includes challenging road games against the Texas Longhorns, Oklahoma Sooners, Texas A&M Aggies, Denver Pioneers and Florida International Panthers. The non-conference home slate is highlighted by a return of the Rice Owls to Sharp Gym. And, we're excited to host the ORU Golden Eagles coming off their Sweet Sixteen run in the NCAA Tournament last season."

The Huskies make a season-opening trip to Austin for a matchup with Texas inside the Frank Erwin Center on Nov. 9 before returning home to host Barclay on Nov. 13. HBU will then start a three-game road stretch with a short trip to College Station on Nov. 17 to face the Aggies prior to a road trip that includes games at Denver and Oklahoma prior to Thanksgiving.

HBU will then play a stretch of four consecutive home games, beginning with Southwestern Adventist on Nov. 29 followed by Oral Roberts on Dec. 4. Champion Christian then visits on Dec. 7 before Rice comes to Sharp Gym on Dec. 11 right before finals. The Huskies will then head to Miami, Fla. to face FIU on Dec. 21 before a break for Christmas and then ring in the new year at home against Ecclesia on Jan. 3.

From Jan. 6 through Jan. 8, the Huskies will be at the Merrell Center in Katy for the Southland Basketball Tip-Off, a unique pre-season conference tournament with three games in three days.

"The Southland Basketball Tip-Off is a unique occasion to see all of the Southland schools play at the Merrell center right before the conference schedule begins," Cottrell added. "Finally, I feel the SLC race for the championship will be as hard-fought and tight as it has been since we joined the conference. The opportunity to compete for a true conference championship with a balanced schedule is something we all look forward to this season."

The 14 game SLC schedule features home and road games against each opponent with the Huskies opening on the road against McNeese in Lake Charles on Jan. 15. Road matchups at UIW and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi follow before a four-game homestand. That stretch of home games runs from Jan. 27 through Feb. 5 with New Orleans, Nicholls, Northwestern State and Southeastern all traveling to Sharp Gym.

The second half of the conference slate begins in Natchitoches, La. against NSU on Feb. 10 with a trip to Southeastern coming two days later. The Huskies return to Louisiana to face Nicholls on Feb. 19 but then return home to host UIW and TAMUCC on Feb. 24 and Feb. 26, respectively.  HBU then closes out the regular season with a Mar. 2 matchup against New Orleans in the Crescent City and Senior Night in Sharp Gym against McNeese on Mar. 5.

"We couldn't be more excited about the upcoming season and the start of a new journey with this team of Huskies," Cottrell concluded.

The Southland Conference tournament will be held back at the Merrell Center in Katy from Mar. 9-12.
