For Plex athlete Bayleigh Minor, winning is in her DNA. 

Following in the footsteps of her parents, Deon and Claudia Minor, who were both former track stars, Bayleigh managed to snag three medals at the AAU Track and Field Junior Olympics this month. The track-star took home the gold in the 400-meter sprint and set a new personal best of 53.43 seconds, while Minor and her team took 2nd and 3rd in the 4x100 relay and 4x400 relay. 

"It was a big accomplishment," Minor said. "I had just gotten second place in my previous 400M race, so this helped me prove to myself that I could win." 

As the next-generation Minor, Bayleigh is set to fill big shoes. Her mother was an All-American triple jumper at Rice University, and her father was an All-American at Baylor University, and won gold in the 400 meter and 4x400 relay at the World Junior Track and Field Championship in Seoul, South Korea 29 years ago. In 1997 and 1999, he competed in the World Indoor Track and Field Championship, winning the 4x400 relay and setting a world record. Now, he is the FBCA Head Track and Field Coach. 

“My parents inspire me, they are both always there for me,” says Bayleigh Minor in an article from FBCA. “It feels good, and I’m proud because I made them proud, my coaches and teammates.”

In addition to running track at her high school, Minor also plays volleyball and is a member of Afterburners, a youth track club in Missouri City, Texas. Minor has Olympic dreams and draws inspiration from the USA Women’s Track and Field team in Tokyo.

“[They] show that I can do it, even if I’m young.” Minor tells KPRC. “And if I keep trying, I could be there one day.
