HOUSTON – HBU women's soccer is set for a pair of matches against in-town foes this weekend, first hosting the Rice Owls at Sorrels Field on Friday before heading to the University of Houston campus to face the Cougars on Sunday.

The Huskies (0-1) saw their originally scheduled season-opener against SMU canceled before opening this past Sunday against North Texas, falling to the Mean Green at home, 2-0. HBU had one attempt off the post and a penalty kick miss just to the left in the loss with goalkeeper Karla Ramirez making five saves.

The Owls (2-0) come into Friday's matchup having beaten Sam Houston by a 4-0 margin before downing Stephen F. Austin 2-0, both on their home field. Rice didn't allow a single shot on goal against Sam Houston and against SFA, keeper Bella Killgore made eight saves for the shutout. Junior midfielder Delaney Schultz leads the Owls offensively so far with two goals and one assist, all of which came in the opening win over the Bearkats.

The Cougars (2-0) will face SFA on Thursday ahead of their meeting with the Huskies. UH owns a home 3-1 win over Oklahoma and defeated Southland Conference rival McNeese in Lake Charles, La., 2-1. The UH defense has allowed just 12 shots after two games with six of those on target. Five different players have scored one goal each with freshman forward Nadia Kamassah leading the team with three points thanks to a goal and an assist.

HBU faced both teams on the road this past spring, falling at Rice by a 2-0 margin and playing short-handed with just 13 available players at UH and dropping the spring opener, 3-1.

Both games this weekend will begin at 7:00 p.m.

On Friday, while admission is free the women's soccer team will be accepting donations to put toward medical bills for HBU assistant volleyball coach Molly Howard Gerwig who is battling stage IV neuroendocrine colon cancer.
