VB: September 13 Players of the Week

DALLAS – UAB’s Fernanda Maida, who had 53 kills and hit .400 in three matches, North Texas Henrianna Ibarra, who had 45 total digs in three matches on the way to All-Tournament honors at the North Texas Challenge, Rice’s Carly Graham, who racked up 111 assists and 23 digs in three match sweeps, and UTEP’s Ema Uskokovic, who had 34 kills and 21 digs at the PDX Classic, earned the third 2021 Conference USA Volleyball Player of the Week honors, presented by Surf & Turf Golf.
 
Maida was selected as Offensive Player of the Week, Ibarra earned Defensive Player of the Week honors, Graham captured Setter of the Week and Uskokovic repeated as the Freshman of the Week.
 
C-USA Offensive Player of the Week – Fernanda Maida, UAB, Jr., Cochabamba, Bolivia
Maida registered 53 kills (4.82 kills/set), and hit .400 over 11 sets versus Oregon State, SIU Edwardsville and host Colorado State at the Ram Volleyball Classic. The junior from Cochabamba, Bolivia had 13 kills in the program's first-ever victory over a Pac-12 opponent in Oregon State in a three-game sweep, and she had 19 kills and a career-high four aces in a four-set victory over SIU Edwardsville. Maida finished the weekend with 21 kills and hit .474 in a four-set defeat to Colorado State. She recorded eight aces and posted 61.5 points in the tournament.
 
C-USA Defensive Player of the Week – Henrianna Ibarra, North Texas, RS-Sr., San Antonio, Texas
Ibarra anchored the Mean Green defensive effort and was named to the All-Tournament team at the North Texas Challenge. She posted a team-high nine digs in a three-set sweep against Jackson State, 20 digs in a five-set defeat to Montana State and 10 more in a three-set sweep of Abilene Christian in the tournament finale. The redshirt senior from San Antonio, Texas finished with 45 total digs (4.09 digs/set) and five aces in the three matches.
 
C-USA Setter of the Week – Carly Graham, Rice, Jr., Spring, Texas
Graham was sensational this past week in orchestrating an Owls offense that swept all three opponents they faced last week as she totaled 111 assists (12.33/set) while also totaling 23 digs (2.56/set) and nine kills over nine sets. Against Houston Baptist, the junior from Spring, Texas had 30 assists in a three-set victory. In the Adidas Invitational II at home, she posted 35 assists (11.6/set) in a three-set sweep of LSU and 46 (15.3/set) in a sweep of Sam Houston. The Owls hit .326 overall for the week, including .320 against LSU and .384 vs. Sam Houston.
 
C-USA Freshman of the Week – Ema Uskokovic, UTEP, Fr., Belgrade, Serbia
Uskokovic repeats as Freshman of the Week after she had a big weekend at the PDX Classic with 34 kills (3.09 kills/set), 21 digs (1.91 digs/set) and three blocks overall in 11 sets played. She was one of the top three leaders for UTEP with 11 kills and tallied three blocks in a four-set defeat to Grand Canyon. The native of Belgrade, Serbia helped the Miners sweep Portland with nine kills and 14 digs, and she followed up that performance with her best match of the tournament with 14 kills in a four-set victory over host Portland State. She hit .302 for the weekend and posted 36.5 points for the Miners.
