Cougars will play a six-tournament schedule including one at home

HOUSTON – The University of Houston Tennis program and Head Coach Helena Besovic announced its official 2021 fall match schedule on Monday.

"We are very excited to start competing this fall," said Besovic. "The schedule is set to give each player a chance to improve their singles and doubles rankings and will prepare us for the spring season."

Following a successful 2020-21 season with a 15-8 record, the Cougars look to continue its success this fall. Houston Tennis was originally scheduled to to begin its season at Louisiana Monroe last week, but due to cancellations the Cougars will begin play at SMU on Friday.

Returning student-athletes include captains Azul Pedemonti and Sophie Gerits. The junior and senior are joined by eight team members, including three freshmen. Pedmonti will be back on the court with doubles partner Blanca Cortijo Parreno. The pair led the team in doubles wins last season with eight.

The six-match schedule features one home tournament at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility, as well as five away tournaments and invitationals this fall. Houston will also travel across town to Rice for the Rice Invitational Oct. 29-31.
