HOUSTON, Texas – Senior
Jessica Rabius posted a top-five finish and
Justice Artisst led the Husky men at the HBU cross country team's season opening meet, the Rice Invitational, on the Rice campus across town on Friday evening.
Rabius shaved two minutes off her previous best in the 4,000 meters, crossing the finish line in 14:10.60 to place fifth out the 83 finishers. In her first collegiate meet, freshman
Arlette Concepcion placed 20
th with a time of 14:38.40.
Chandler Krueger finished in 15:41.9 while
Vania Ortiz Marquez crossed in 16:54.3.
In the men's 6,000 meter race, Artisst was the team's top finisher for the first time in his career, finishing 21
st in 19:53.0.
Ben Drew was next for the Huskies in 24
th place with a time of 20:02.1. Senior
Stephen Aguilar was next with a time of 20:12.1 in 28
th place followed by newcomer
Krzysztof Turski in 20:24.8.
Nate Allen placed 44
th overall, finishing in 20:45.6.
The HBU men finished fifth out of 12 teams.
The Huskies will be back in action on Saturday, Sep. 25, in Lake Charles, La. at the McNeese Cowboy Stampede.
