How the Big 12 schools (including the 4 expansion schools) faired this past weekend

Texas Tech remains unbeaten but how did the rest of the Big 12 teams perform?

The Texas Tech Red Raiders football team survived a strong effort from in-state FCS Stephen F Austin Lumberjacks and remained unbeaten at 2-0. Before we take a moment to look at the results across the Big XII, let’s appreciate the kind words from SFA Head Coach Colby Carthel. Respect, Coach!

Kansas at 17 Coastal Carolina

If they had the choice, it was really smart for the Jayhawks to agree to play a game while many in the nation were watching their local high school kids play football. Kansas fails to cover the 25 point spread and gets dominated by Coastal Carolina 49-22. Kansas is 1-1.

Western Carolina at 4 Oklahoma

The Sooners dusted off their rough Week 1 start and dominated Western Carolina and shut them out 76-0. Oklahoma remains unbeaten at 2-0.

10 Iowa at 9 Iowa State

The Cyclones hosted in-state rival Hawkeyes on Saturday with hopes of validating their highest preseason ranking in school history. Unfortunately, 15-year starter Brock Purdy (I’m joking of course) was ineffective and threw three interceptions. Iowa State loses to Iowa again and falls to 1-1 on the season.

15 Texas at Arkansas

Horns downed 40-21. Enough said. Texas is 1-1.

Tulsa at Oklahoma State

The Cowboys were able to score 21 points in the fourth quarter to avoid a loss to Tulsa. Oklahoma State are about as happy with their two wins as Texas Tech fans. The copying of Red Raider traditions just never seems to end. Oklahoma State remains unbeaten at 2-0.

California at TCU

The Horned Frogs were involved in a back and forth affair with PAC-12 member Cal Bears. TCU does just enough to win by two points with a score of 34-32. TCU is also undefeated at 2-0.

Long Island University at West Virginia

The Mountaineers were the lone team in the Big 12 that lost in Week 1. The ship was righted for at least one week as West Virginia dominated LIU 66-0. West Virginia improves to 1-1 on the season.

Texas Southern at Baylor

The Bears bounced back from a rocky start to dominate fellow Texas school Texas Southern 66-7. This was a performance many Tech fans were expecting against SFA. Baylor is 2-0 on the season much to the chagrin of everyone else in the conference.

Southern Illinois at Kansas State

The Wildcats are looking for a quarterback after losing Skylar Thompson in this game. Luckily for Kansas State, the Salukis only scored in the second quarter and they were able to survive with a 31-23 victory. Kansas State is undefeated at 2-0

Let’s check on how the four expansion schools performed.

21 Utah at BYU

The Cougars welcomed Charlie Brewer (yes, that Charlie Brewer) and the 21 ranked Utes into Provo and probably took their ranking from them. BYU won 26-17 and like many of their future Big 12 members are 2-0.

Murray State at 7 Cincinnati

The Bearcats, not only spell cats correctly, but they also dominated an inferior opponent by a score of 42-7. Cincinnati remained undefeated on the young season at 2-0.

Houston at Rice

The Cougars bounced back from failing to score in the second half in a loss to your Red Raiders. Houston scored in both halves against the Owls and dominated the game 44-7. Houston is 1-1.

Bethune-Cookman at UCF

The Knights manhandled the Wildcats for a 63-14 victory. UCF is 2-0 on the young season.
