Big 12 Predictions: Week 3

The first two weeks of the Big 12’s season have revealed something we already kind of knew. There’s a clear bottom half and top half of this conference, and even some of the teams in the top half are questionable. That means that making picks is going to get even tougher over the next few weeks, so get on board while the getting is easy!

Don’t forget to add a score prediction, if you have the closest score to the actual final, you get a point. Those points work as tiebreakers, as you can see in the standings below this week’s games.

Also, a big shoutout to Slick2400 on going 13-0 last week. Theirs was the only perfect score of the week.

Big 12 Games

West Virginia (1-1) vs. #15 Virginia Tech (2-0)

Time/TV: 11:00am, FS1

West Virginia’s first P5 game of the season didn’t go well on the road at Maryland, but hosting the Hokies might have a different tune? It’s an uphill battle no doubt, but I think the Mountaineers will keep it close.

Jamie’s Pick: Virginia Tech 31, West Virginia 21

#3 Oklahoma (2-0) vs. Nebraska (2-1)

Time/TV: 11:00am, FOX

FOX’s refusal to move the game time is the reason we’re in this conference realignment mess. Oh, you want me to say something about the game? Oklahoma by 100.

Jamie’s Pick: Oklahoma 45, Nebraska 13

Kansas State (2-0) vs. Nevada (2-0)

Time/TV: 1:00pm, ESPN+

No Skylar Thompson makes this a tough draw for the Wildcats, and Nevada has already knocked off a P5 opponent this season (Cal, 22-17). I think this will be a low-scoring affair, but Deuce Vaughn helps KSU sneak out with a win.

Kansas (1-1) vs. Baylor (2-0)

Time/TV: 2:30pm, ESPN+

The third of three warm up games for Gerry Bohanon before the Bears host Iowa State.

Jamie’s Pick: Baylor 38, Kansas 21

Texas Tech (2-0) vs. Florida International (1-1)

Time/TV: 6:00pm, ESPN+

I don’t trust Texas Tech a whole lot, but I trust them this week.

Jamie’s Pick: Texas Tech 52, FIU 7

Texas (1-1) vs. Rice (0-2)

Time/TV: 7:00pm, LHN

Poor Rice has to bear the brunt of Texas coming off an embarrassing loss. Casey Thompson gets the nod for the Horns, and Texas rolls.

Jamie’s Pick: Texas 56, Rice 14

Oklahoma State (2-0) @ Boise State (1-1)

Time/TV: 8:00pm, FS1

The Pokes have looked shaky so far, while Boise State seemed to get things rolling against UTEP (a potentially decent UTEP, too).

#14 Iowa State (1-1) vs. UNLV (0-2)

Time/TV: 9:30pm, CBSS

Another hapless team stands in the way of a Big 12 team coming off a loss. Iowa State has one of the best defenses in the country, and UNLV is distinctly *not good.*
