I think the offense has run the ball very well and the team has avoided any injuries, excluding the players who were sidelined when the season started. Hopefully those remaining few are back when the Big 12 schedule begins.

Texas 58, Rice 0

For the first time since 2017, the Texas Longhorns recorded a shutout in a 58-0 stomping of the Rice Owls that included three touchdowns runs of more than 60 yards as head coach Steve Sarkisian’s team bounced back from last week’s disaster in Fayetteville with a strong effort on Saturday at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.

Kansas State 38, Nevada 17

Kansas State’s defense was once again impenetrable on the ground, and they weren’t too bad when Nevada tried to throw the ball either as the Wildcats ran their way to a 38-17 win over the Wolf Pack this afternoon at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.

Baylor 45, Kansas 7

It was a reminder of how far Leipold and this program have to go, and we’re likely to get reminded again multiple times this year. KU drops to 1-2 on the year, with their final non-conference game up next Saturday, a trip to Duke for an afternoon kickoff.

If it was not already apparent from the outset this season—and it should have been—due to the score, the lack of big plays, or whatever, it absolutely should be now: Baylor’s offense is leaps and bounds better than a year ago and probably better than any we saw in Matt Rhule’s tenure. The offensive line is barely recognizable; what was a major weakness has turned into a strength, having been PFF’s #1 OL each of the first two weeks.

#14 Iowa State 48, UNLV 3

After a week that most of us are trying to forget, the Cyclones travel to Las Vegas to take on the Runnin’ Rebels of UNLV. The Rebels haven’t tallied a win since November of 2019, big opportunity for Iowa State to get back on track. A 9:30 pm kick isn’t ideal, but here we go.The only notable things to happen in the 4th quarter was Andrew Mevis nailing a field goal from 54 yards yards out and Dion Silas recording his first career rushing touchdown. So we got that going for us, which is nice.

Oklahoma State 21, Boise State 20

The Cowboys (3-0) outlasted Boise State 21-20 despite finishing with just 87 passing yards. Oklahoma State scored all 21 of its points in the first half, which ended with a grand total of seven passing yards for the offense. For as bad as the OSU passing offense was, Boise State was equally bad on the ground totaling just 61 yards on 35 carries. No Bronco rusher had more than 27 yards. Oklahoma State was quite the opposite.

#3 Oklahoma 23, Nebraska 16

In a rivalry renewed, the No. 3 Oklahoma Sooners held off a gutsy effort from the Nebraska Cornhuskers (2-2) en route to a 23-16 victory. With the win, OU wraps up the non-conference portion of its schedule and improves to 3-0 on the season. Heisman hopeful QB Spencer Rattler had himself a solid showing against the Huskers’ defense. In total, the redshirt sophomore completed 24 of 34 passing attempts 214 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions. He also added 35 rushing yards and another score on six carries.

Texas Tech 54, Florida International 21

Texas Tech quarterback Tyler Shough threw for 399 yards and four touchdown passes to spark a 54-21 victory against Florida International on Saturday at Jones AT&T Stadium.

Power Rankings

Reminder - power rankings are fluid and based off of numerous factors, one of which is how much I’ve drank before I put these together. Don’t take them too seriously.

1. Oklahoma - 3-0 as they exit OOC play, with a win against Nebraska.
2. West Virginia - yes they lost to Maryland, but their win against Virginia Tech is better than anyone else’s right now.
3. Oklahoma State - I might actually question if beating Boise State, in Boise, is tougher than VT at home. Since VT is a rivalry, I gave the ‘Eers the nod but OSU’s win is big IMO.
4. Iowa State - 9:30 PM kickoff in Las Vegas and they absolutely trounced the Rebels. Yikes.
5. Kansas State - 3-0. Ranked. Klieman is doing a good job.
6. Baylor - I struggled with where to put Baylor. They are 3-0 and have the best offense. They also played Texas State, Texas Southern, Kansas. If they weren’t 3-0 with the best offense, I would be offended.
7. Texas - bounced back from their first SEC loss to beat Rice. TEXAS. IS. BACK. FOLKS.
8. TCU - Luck of the draw. Had a bye week and we just forgot you existed.
9. Texas Tech - You’re scoring points, but again....competition.
10. Kansas - Only 5 more football games until basketball season starts.

Future Conference Rivals Scores

#8 Cincinnati 38, Indiana 24

Cincinnati quarterback Desmond Ridder struggled through the first half. He reverted to form in the second half — and so did the Bearcats. The senior threw two touchdown passes and ran for another in the final 30 minutes, helping No. 8 Cincinnati rally for a critical 38-24 victory at Indiana on Saturday.

Houston 45, Grambling 0

Alton McCaskill ran for 114 yards and two touchdowns as Houston rolled to a 45-0 victory over Grambling on Saturday night. McCaskill ran 16 times and scored on 17- and 34-yard runs for Houston (2-1). Ike Ogbogu completed 14 of 22 passes for 196 yards and threw a pair of touchdown passes to Nathaniel Dell, who finished with eight catches for 134 yards.

Louisville 42, UCF 35

The Knights and their high-speed offense appeared primed to win the back-and-forth battle after intercepting Louisville’s Malik Cunningham off a deflection on the previous play for possession at the Cardinals 41 with under a minute to play. But Alderman, a freshman linebacker, was there to snatch a tip of Dillon Gabriel’s pass on the next snap before finding room down the right sideline for the TD to spark a delirious celebration for Louisville.

#23 BYU 27, #19 Arizona State 17

Forcing turnovers and getting big plays at critical junctures from Jaren Hall is turning into a proven winning formula for BYU. Hall threw for 214 yards and two touchdowns and added 38 yards on seven carries, leading No. 23 BYU to a 27-17 victory over No. 19 Arizona State on Saturday night.
