No. 13 Ducks Host Oregon State in Pac-12 Opener

EUGENE, Ore. – The No. 13 Oregon volleyball team opens Pac-12 play Wednesday against Oregon State at Matthew Knight Arena. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. (PT). The Ducks enter conference play with a 9-1 record.

Last Time Out
The Ducks capped their trip to Washington, D.C., with a straight-set win (25-11, 25-23, 25-11) over host American. Oregon's defensive effort limited the Eagles to a season-low -.060 hitting percentage. Earlier in the day, the Ducks' held off Harvard in five sets (25-14, 25-19, 23-25, 23-25, 16-14). Oregon won the first two sets but with a kill from Gloria Mutiri, fought off a match point on its way to victory. It was the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
 
Hansen Earns Weekly Honor
Powered by her presence at the net, Abby Hansen was named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. The Phoenix, Ariz., native posted at least four blocks in each of the Ducks' three matches in D.C., including a season-high eight blocks against American. Hansen added a season-high 10 kills to a six-block performance in the team's five-set win over Harvard.
 
Mutiri Takes Care of Business in D.C.
Gloria Mutiri registered a career-high 19 kills in the Ducks' five-set victory over Harvard, including a kill to fight off a match point—UO trailed 14-13—and two rallies later, the final kill of the match. During the weekend in the nation's capital, Mutiri put down 3.27 kills per set and posted an incredible .464 hitting percentage. The Sand Springs, Okla., native has at least eight kills in six of 10 matches this season while reaching double figures three times.

The Ducks hold a commanding lead in the all-time series between the in-state rivals and has won 26 of the past 30 matches dating back to the start of the 2006 season. Oregon has won 15 in a row in Eugene including a 10-0 tally inside Matthew Knight Arena.
 
Where We Stand
Oregon enters Pac-12 play ranked second in conference and 10th nationally with 2.90 blocks per set. The team leads the league with 15.74 digs per set led by libero Georgia Murphy who sits fourth individually at 4.50 digs per set. The Ducks also rank second in the Pac-12 with their .275 hitting percentage and .133 opponent hitting percentage, both top-20 marks in the NCAA.
 
Elite Company of One
Brooke Nuneviller is the only player in the country with a 30-20 (kills-digs) performance this season. She had 31 kills and 21 digs while hitting .338 in the Ducks' four-set win at Rice (Sept. 2) in Houston. Through Oregon's first 10 matches of the season, Nuneviller is averaging 3.41 kills per set and 3.34 digs per set.

Following Wednesday's home match, the Ducks travel to Tempe, Ariz., to play Arizona State on Sunday at 12 p.m. (PT) on the Pac-12 Networks.
