Thursday Recruiting Roundup: Five-star OL may visit Michigan again

On this week’s Thursday Recruiting Roundup, we will discuss how the Michigan Wolverines impressed a couple in-state recruits last weekend for their unofficial visits to the Big House. It’s early, but they are putting in some work on the junior class in the state of Michigan.

But we start off today’s edition of the roundup with an update on arguably Michigan’s top remaining target in the 2022 class.

Five-star OL may visit AA again

Even though he used his official visit to Michigan for the Washington game earlier this month, 2022 five-star offensive lineman Josh Conerly could find his way back to Ann Arbor for another visit later this season, he recently told 247Sports’ Brandon Huffman ($).

“I haven’t really figured out anywhere else yet to visit, but possibly Oklahoma, Michigan, LSU, Alabama and USC,” said Conerly.

Conerly visited Washington a couple weeks ago unofficially, since he is so close and lives in the city of Seattle. This past weekend, he was able to check out USC and see them get destroyed by Oregon State at home for the first time in more than half a decade — that, too, was an unofficial visit. He will check out USC for an official visit later this year, as well.

“The atmosphere at the game was okay,” Conerly said about USC last weekend. ”But the vibes before the game were electric and I was there after the game.”

Conerly also hopes to visit Oregon at some point this year. This recruitment is far from over, but to be considered for another visit down the line, which would be his third to Michigan, is great news for Jim Harbaugh and company. Stay tuned for more on this one.

Brother of U-M freshman raves about visit

There weren’t a ton of recruiting visitors in Michigan Stadium last weekend for the game against Rutgers, but among the junior prospects on hand was the younger brother of Michigan freshman offensive lineman, 2023 athlete Khamari Anderson.

At 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds, Anderson could play a couple positions at the college level, as he plays tight end and defensive end at Cass Tech. He got to talk with multiple coaches on both sides of the ball during his visit, including Josh Gattis, Sherrone Moore, Steve Clinkscale and Ron Bellamy.

“The visit went well,” Anderson told The Michigan Insider. “I got some good feedback from the coaches. The energy was great and there were good vibes.

“The energy of the fans definitely and how much everyone admires the players showing them lots of love after the game.”

Anderson does not yet hold an offer from the Wolverines, but they are interested in him at the very least since they invited him to attend the game. Watch for his recruitment to take off as the year goes on and more film gets out there.

2023 DB very interested in U-M after receiving offer

A prospect on the rise who lives on the West Coast in the class of 2023 is defensive back Christian Pierce. Much like Ders, Blake and Adam from “Workaholics,” the 6-foot-2, 180-pounder hails from Rancho Cucamonga, California.

Michigan, who offered him on Tuesday, marked the fifth scholarship of his young recruitment, joining USC, Nevada, Oregon State and Rice. Pierce recapped getting the offer from the Wolverines with 247Sports’ Greg Biggins ($).

“That was an unbelievable feeling,” Pierce said. “I talked with Courtney Morgan on Monday and he told me they really liked my film and my grades as well. He told me they were very interested in me and he just wanted to talk with my coach to make sure I was a good guy.

“I kind of thought an offer could be coming and then he called me again (Tuesday) morning before school and told me I had a scholarship offer. I was super excited and I definitely have a lot of interest in Michigan right now.”

The Wolverines are so interested that they are already trying to make an effort to get Pierce out to Ann Arbor on a visit in the near future. Morgan is hoping he can visit this fall for a game, but, “if not, then for a regular visit when my season is over so I’m for sure going to try and do that.”
