Houston Tennis Concludes Weekend Tournament

Pedemonti, Giraldo, and Cortijo Parreno scored points for the Cougars
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Tennis program hosted a weekend-long fall tournament at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility. Houston, Rice, North Texas, and SMU all participated in the weekend's events.
Due to inclement weather, Friday play was canceled with hopes of officially starting the tournament on Saturday. After only 30 minutes of doubles competition on Saturday, rain began which caused a 5-hour rain delay. Play was able to resume with half of the singles matches relocating across the city to Rice. The sun was shining on Sunday allowing the final day of play to occur as planned.
Junior Azul Pedemonti defeated SMU's Katherine Jakeway on Saturday (6-4, 7-5) while sophomore Gabi Giraldo defeated SMU's Winslow Huth (6-2, 6-3). During Sunday's competition, sophomore Blanca Cortijo Parreno defeated North Texas' Likhitha Kalava (6-3, 6-3).
