Texas Longhorns wide receiver target Brenen Thompson will announce his commitment on Wednesday, the Spearman product revealed in a Tuesday afternoon tweet.

The speedy 5’10, 165-pounder will choose between his three finalists — Oklahoma State, Texas, and Texas A&M, a top group that he revealed in late August.

Thompson took three official visits back in June, first tripping to Stillwater and then to College Station before visiting Eugene. Oregon was among Thompson’s six finalists named in late June, but did not survive the cut nearly two months later.

Since Spearman’s football season started, Texas is the only school to host Thompson for an official visit — the consensus four-star prospect made his way to Austin for the Rice game in September — although he did take an unofficial visit to Oklahoma State for the season opener against Missouri State.

Early in the process, Oklahoma was in a strong position for Thompson late last year and then Clemson seemingly took the lead in his recruitment during the spring. But both teams faded as Texas surged thanks to the recruiting efforts of tight ends coach/special teams coordinator Jeff Banks, who joined wide receivers coach Andre Coleman as a secondary recruiter of Thompson. By late May, two 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions were made in favor of the Longhorns.

On Tuesday, four Rivals FutureCasts came in for Thompson around the same time as Banks teased an addition to the recruiting class.

Put it all together and it becomes clear that the Longhorns are in position to add a key piece on Wednesday to a 2022 recruiting class that currently features only a single wide receiver pledge in Lewisville’s Armani Winfield.
