WATCH: Four-star WR Brenen Thompson dishes on why he chose Texas

First-year head coach Steve Sarkisian is hitting it out of the park right now on the recruiting trail.

Many prospects have stated Sarkisian’s open and honest communication is one of the primary factors that attract them to the program. It appears to be paying off. Texas holds the No. 2 recruiting class in the nation for the 2022 cycle.

Four-star wide receiver Brenen Thompson became the Longhorns’ highest-rated commitment in the class on Wednesday evening. The speedy playmaker chose Texas over Texas A&M and Oklahoma State.

He was expected to visit College Station this weekend for the Texas A&M-Alabama game, but decided to shut down his recruitment. The official visit to Austin during the Rice game sealed the deal for Texas.

How was Sarkisian’s staff able to win him over? Press Pass Sports sat down with Thompson shortly after he announced his commitment.

Thompson mentioned Austin felt like home during his official visit and he appreciated how the coaching staff treated he and his family. “Everything I have is there, and everything I want is there,” he said. “(Sarkisian) is very honest across the board, and has always treated me and my family like family.”

It’s no secret Sarkisian values speed and that’s exactly what Thompson brings.

“Definitely the speed, you have to have the speed. But (Sarkisian) always harps at how I’m even a better kid than athlete, and that really means a lot to me.”

On the 247Sports composite, Thompson is the No. 14 wide receiver in the country and No. 87 overall. Within the state of Texas, he is the No. 11 prospect.
