Collins falls in final round of singles qualifying at ITA All-American Championships

Sophomore Kylie Collins dropped a three-set decision on Wednesday.

CHARLESTON, S.C. — University of Texas sophomore Kylie Collins dropped a hard-fought 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 decision to Marlee Zein of Florida in the third and final round of singles qualifying on Wednesday at the ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) Women's All-American Championships by LTP. With her loss, UT's participation at the ITA All-Americans came to an end.

During Monday's opening day of the tournament, Collins recorded a pair of wins in the first two rounds of singles qualifying and dropped just four games in her four sets of action. She tallied a 6-1, 6-0 win against Melodie Collard of Virginia in the first round, and Collins added a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Rice's Federica Trevisan in the second round. Tuesday's action was canceled due to rain.

Since 1983, the ITA Women's All-American Championships have featured the nation's top NCAA Division I players and have been a pioneer in women's college tennis. The event has created milestones that over the years have directly influenced the popularity of women's collegiate tennis.
