Cougars, Aggies Meet in Fall Exhibition

Houston heads to College Station for Friday matchup
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Houston Baseball heads to Texas A&M to face the Aggies in its first fall exhibition slated for 6 p.m. CT Friday from Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.
The teams will play 10-12 innings with free substitutions. There will be no live stats or broadcast for the contest. Admission is free to attend.
Cougar first baseman Ryan Hernandez, who led Houston in hits (52), multi-hit games (16), RBIs (37) and home runs (11), returns for his senior season. Redshirt junior Ian McMillan, regarded as one of The American's top shortstops, is also back.
Jaycob Deese and Ben Sears, who combined to make 31 appearances and 20 starts in 2021, provide a strong 1-2 punch on the mound. Sears finished second on the team for innings (67.1) while Deese's 52 strikeouts ranked second on the club a season ago.
The Cougars' 2022 roster features 24 newcomers including eight right-handed pitchers, seven southpaws, three utility players, two infielders, two catchers and two outfielders.
The Cougars will host the Rice Owls at 6 p.m. CT on Friday, Oct. 15 from Don Sanders Field at Darryl & Lori Schroeder Park. Admission will be free.

" Our scrimmage against Texas A&M will be a great opportunity for our players to compete in a game environment," Houston Head Coach Todd Whitting said. "We have had a terrific fall to this point and our staff looks forward to getting our guys on the field. We will play 10-12 innings with some of those being under controlled situations and free substitutions to get our players/team in different situations."
