FT. WORTH — The North Texas tennis team's run at the 2021 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Texas Regionals came to an end Monday morning but they leave Ft. Worth with a lot of excitement.

The young Mean Green team saw two freshmen advance to the round of 16 in the singles draw of the five-day tournament. Three UNT doubles teams advanced at least a round in the doubles tournament, including Lucie Devier and Jasmine Adams making it all the way to the semifinals. And North Texas beat two ranked opponents over the length of the tournament. At regionals, UNT beat notable opponents from Baylor, Texas Tech and Rice to name a few.

Devier and Adams' run in doubles tournament came to an end on Monday when they lost 6-2, 6-2 in the semifinals to the No. 2 overall seeded team who went on to win the regional title later Monday afternoon. The senior/freshman UNT duo were the only non-seeded doubles team to reach the quarterfinals let alone the semifinals.

"It was a great run for Lucie and Jasmine," said head coach Sujay Lama. "They have developed a special chemistry and will continue to get better. Today they just ran into a great team that was firing on all cylinders."

Devier and Adams on Monday lost three 40-40 games in the first set to their Baylor opponents who are ranked No. 13 in the nation. The only other loss the UNT doubles team has had this fall was to the No. 1 nationally ranked doubles team at the Milwaukee Classic in September.

Along with the success of Devier and Adams, the Mean Green as a whole proved to they can compete against some of the very best in the region with the team's success over the last week.

"Overall a lot of positives to take home," Lama emphasized. "Mainly the confidence that we can compete against the very best in our region and in the nation. We have a good three weeks to get rested and work on our game for our final tournament at home. It's important we make improvements every single day and finish off the fall season strong."

UNT will wrap up the fall season by hosting the 2021 Mean Green Invite beginning Nov. 5 from the Waranch Tennis Complex.
