It is Week 11 of the college football season and Texas is experiencing a quarterback controversy again — a less than ideal situation, especially with a 4-5 record.

Redshirt freshman Hudson Card had a short stint as the starter after he got the nod over Casey Thomson in fall camp. Card was solid in Week 1 against Louisiana but was benched after struggling on the road at Arkansas.

Thompson took control of the job, playing very well against Rice, Texas Tech and Oklahoma. His pay has been up and down since the Oklahoma loss, during which he suffered a thumb injury.

The ball did not look good coming out of Thompson’s hand against Iowa State early in the game, prompting Sarkisian to give Card another chance. Unfortunately, Card was not much better.

It is unclear how much Thompson’s thumb has affected his play of late. Sarkisian mentioned at his Monday presser that it was an issue vs. Iowa State.

On Monday, Sarkisian stated he plans to name a starter on Thursday. The severity of Thompson’s thumb injury may end up being the deciding factor on who Sarkisian goes with.
