These are the major movies coming to our screens this week.

Here are some of the new films being released in theaters or for streaming, broadcast, rental or purchase this week.

“A Choice of Weapons: Inspired by Gordon Parks”

Spike Lee, Anderson Cooper, Ava DuVernay and Kareem Abdul-Jabar are among the notables in this documentary talking about the impact of pioneering African American photographer and filmmaker Gordon Parks.

“Acid Test”

Houston director Jenny Waldo returns to the early ’90s to tell a story of a studious high school student who discovers the world of punk rock. Part of the Houston Cinema Arts Festival.

“Again, Together: The Cumulative Impact of Environmental Racism in Houston”

“Belfast”

Kenneth Branagh’s semi-autobiographical sketch of a young boy coming of age during “the troubles” in late ’60s Northern Ireland is powerful drama, made all the more so by being shot in black-and-white.

“Bushwick Bill: Geto Boy”

Documentary on the life of the late Houston rapper Bushwick Bill. Houston Cinema Arts Festival.

“CS Lewis: The Most Reluctant Convert”

A filmed stage performance about the writer Lewis’ conversion from atheism to Christianity.

“Home Sweet Home Alone”

Kenan Thompson, Chris Parnell, Ellie Kemper, Rob Delaney and Mikey Day star in a comedy about a couple who try to steal back an heirloom from a bratty kid.

“JFK Revisited: Through the Looking Glass”

Oliver Stone’s documentary, narrated by Whoopi Goldberg and Donald Sutherland, uses declassified files to examine the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

“Kurup”

Historical drama from India that tells the life story of Indian criminal Sukumara Kurup.

“The Third Coast”

A 40th anniversary screening of a documentary about life in Houston in the ’70s.

“Tick, Tick … BOOM!”

Lin-Manuel Miranda directs this adaption of the stage production focusing on the life and loves of a young theater composer. Andrew Garfield, Vanessa Hudgens, Bradley Whitford and Judith Light star.
