WACO – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) cross country teams compete in the NCAA South Central Regional Championships on Friday with the women competing in a 6K at 10 a.m. and the men following with a 10K at 11 a.m. at Cottonwood Creek Golf Course.
 
The women are starting out of box 10 in a field that includes, from boxes 1-to-28, Central Arkansas, Abilene Christian, LSU, UT Arlington, McNeese State, SMU, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas A&M, New Orleans, Incarnate Word, TCU, Louisiana Tech, Rice, Louisiana Monroe, Grambling, Stephen F. Austin, North Texas, host Baylor, Houston, Arkansas State, Arkansas, Lamar, Nicholls State, Tulane, UTSA, Houston Baptist, Texas, Little Rock, Sam Houston and Texas State.
 
The men are starting out of box 12 in a field that includes, from boxes 1-to-29, Nicholls State, Sam Houston, Texas A&M, Central Arkansas, LSU, Southeastern Louisiana, Houston Baptist, Abilene Christian, New Orleans, Lamar, TCU, Louisiana Monroe, Arkansas, Rice, Incarnate Word, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, UT Arlington, Houston, Texas, Baylor, UTSA, Arkansas State, Stephen F. Austin, North Texas, Texas Southern, Prairie View A&M, Louisiana Tech, Little Rock, McNeese State, Texas State and Tulane.
 
The top two finishing teams and the first four finishers in the race not associated with those two teams advance to the NCAA Championships on Nov. 20 at Florida State.
 
The last time the Vaqueros competed at the NCAA Regionals was 2019, when the women's team stunned the field by finishing in fourth place. On the men's side, Abraham Chirchir finished sixth to advance to the NCAA Championships for the second year in a row.
