Louisiana looking for first win over Rice since 1981

LAFAYETTE – Coming off of a season-opening victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville, Louisiana Women's Basketball will hit the road for the first time this season when it travels to Houston to take on Rice. The game, which was originally scheduled to be played in Lafayette, will tip off at 7 p.m.

The two programs last played a season ago, with the Owls earning a 83-51 victory over the Ragin' Cajuns. Rice leads the all-time series, 5-3.

Louisiana got the 10th year of the Garry Brodhead era off to a great start, securing a convincing 84-58 victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville at the CAJUNDOME on Tuesday, Nov. 9. Four Ragin' Cajuns scored in double figures in the win, led by a 16-point performance by freshman Tamera Johnson.

Johnson was joined by a trio of returners in double figures, with Brandi Williams adding 12 points to open her campaign and Ty'Reona Doucet and Makayia Hallmon adding 10 points apiece.

The team also did a great job protecting the basketball in the opener, only turning the rock over four times. Additionally, Destiny Rice did a masterful job running the offense in her first game running point, dishing out a game-high seven assists.

Rice is also coming off a season-opening victory, defeating St. Edward's by a score of 84-41 to secure the first win for head coach Lindsay Edwards. Sophomore forward Ashlee Austin led the way by recording a career-high in points (18), rebounds (6), assists (4) and steals (2).

Saturday's game will be available to stream live on CUSA.tv, but a subscription is required. Live stats will also be provided.
