Chanukah festivities on Rice campus
Chabad at Rice University will host a menorah-lighting and Chanukah festivities on campus on Monday, Nov. 29, 5 p.m., at the Valhalla Courtyard. Entertainment will be provided by the Rice Mob, and there will be free sufganiyot, gelt and latkes.
David Leebron, university president, will light the menorah. There also will be menorah kits, dreidels and Chanukah giveaways.
Rabbi Shmuli Slonim and his wife, Nechama, co-directors of Chabad of Rice University, are providing all the Chanukah accoutrements. There also will be Chanukah festivities at the Chabad house each night of the Festival of Lights.
“The eternal message of the menorah lights has attained particular significance in light of current world events where the forces of oppression and darkness are ever-present,” Nechama said, in Rice News. “Chanukah is the story of a little light pushing away an empire of darkness, human sensibility defying terror and growth overcoming destruction.”
