AUSTIN, Texas – No. 2 Texas Volleyball swept Sacred Heart, 25-19, 25-17, 25-19, in the NCAA First Round on Thursday at Gregory Gymnasium.
The Longhorns (25-1) advance to face Rice (20-6) in the Second Round on Friday at 8 p.m.
Logan Eggleston, the Big 12 Player of the Year, led Texas with 12 kills, six blocks, five digs and two service aces in a great all-around performance.
Skylar Fields had 11 kills, hitting an impressive .476 in the match and added one dig and one block. Molly Phillips added nine kills, hitting .571 in the match.
Brionne Butler had seven kills and two blocks and hit .556 in the match, while Asjia O'Neal had six blocks and five kills.
Jhenna Gabriel dished out 30 assists, while Saige Ka'aha'aina-Torres finished with five assists. Nalani Iosia had nine digs and one service ace.
The Longhorns held a 10-8 lead in the first set before going on a 7-0 run to effectively put the set away. Sacred Heart rallied late with a 6-0 run, but came up short 25-19.
Sacred Heart scored the first two points of the second set before Texas went on a 6-0 run and never looked back. The Longhorns took the second set 25-17 and were untroubled in the third and final set.
