Ducks Earn Four All-Conference Honors

EUGENE, Ore. – On the strength of their standout efforts during the regular season, Karson Bacon and Brooke Nuneviller have both been named to the All-Pac-12 Volleyball Team as announced Monday by the league office. Additionally, Georgia Murphy and Gloria Mutiri were honorable mention performers in the year-end release.
Conference honors are voted on by the Pac-12 volleyball head coaches.
Oregon, steady at No. 19 in this week's AVCA poll, posted a 22-8 record during the regular season and earned the program's 18th NCAA appearance when the 64-team field was announced Sunday. Oregon faces Kansas in Thursday's first round in Omaha, Neb., with first serve scheduled for 2:30 p.m. (PT).
Bacon is the Pac-12 leader and ranks 10th in the NCAA with her .420 hitting percentage. She put down a career-high 13 kills to go along with a .765 hitting percentage at Arizona State, one of four double-digit performances for the UO middle blocker. Overall, Bacon has posted 12 matches with at least seven kills coupled with a .409 or higher efficiency.
The Fontana, Calif., native is closing in on becoming the first-ever UO player to hit over .400 in a single season; the single-season record of .389 was set by Neticia Enesi in 2008. Defensively, Bacon has tallied at least 4.0 total blocks in 13 matches including a season-high eight blocks in roads victories at Rice and Arizona State.
Nuneviller, a back-to-back selection to the All-Pac-12 Team, is averaging a career-high 3.91 kills per set this season which ranks fourth in the conference. With her 3.18 digs per set, she is one of three players in the Power 5 to average at least 3.00 kills and 3.00 digs per set. Nuneviller has reached double-digit kills in 23 of 28 starts this year including six outings with 20 or more kills.
The Chandler, Ariz., native registered a season-high 31 kills to go along with 21 digs in a four-set win at Rice, and is one of just four players in the country with a 30-kill, 20-dig performances this year. She has six matches this season with at least 15 digs and leads UO with 16 double-doubles. Nuneviller was twice named Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week this fall, and reached 1,000-career kills in the Ducks' victory at Oregon State last Friday.
Murphy, now a two-time honorable mention performer, is currently fourth in the Pac-12 with 4.24 digs per set, and has recorded at least 15 digs in 16 of 28 matches played this season. She collected a season-high 27 digs in a five-set win at Colorado, one of Murphy's seven matches with 20 or more digs. She has been crucial to Oregon leading the Pac-12 in opponent hitting percentage (.179) and digs per set (15.48 d/s).
Named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week in early September, Murphy reached 1,000-career digs this season. She also leads the Ducks with 34 aces this season, and sits seventh in the league with 0.33 service aces per set. Murphy's passing prowess has also led the Ducks' offense generate a .253 hitting percentage, a mark that ranks fifth in the league.
Mutiri registered 10 or more kills in seven matches during the regular season, posting a .296 or higher hitting percentage in six of the seven outings. She put down a career-high 19 kills against Harvard to go along with a .529 hitting percentage thanks to just one attack error in 34 swings. Mutiri tied her career high with a .583 outing to go along with 15 kills in a five-set win at USC.
Defensively, the Sand Springs, Okla., native has posted at least four blocks in 11 matches including a season-high 7.0 total blocks at Colorado. In her first double-digit effort of the conference slate, Mutiri had 13 kills—hitting .308—with six blocks at Arizona State. She enters the postseason hitting .265 this season with 2.15 kills per set.
